Hillside Primary School

SEND Information

Welcome from the SENDCo / Inclusion Lead

Our Inclusion lead and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDco) is Mrs Charlotte Ellis-Holmes. Mrs Holmes works closely with children, families, staff and external professionals to ensure that all pupils are supported to thrive, feel safe, and experience success in school.

At Hillside, we believe that every child is unique, with their own strengths, needs and potential. Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do – it is not an add-on or a separate system, but part of our everyday classroom practice, relationships and school culture.

Our view on Inclusion

We are proud to be an inclusive school where:

  • Every child is welcomed, valued and respected
  • High expectations are held for all learners
  • Differences are understood, supported and celebrated

Inclusion at Hillside means ensuring that all children can access learning, feel a sense of belonging, and make progress, whatever their starting point or need. We recognise that children may need different levels of support at different times, and we are committed to identifying needs early and responding in a flexible, thoughtful way.

We believe that SEND is everyone’s responsibility. Class teachers remain responsible for the progress and wellbeing of all pupils in their class, with the SENDCo and wider team providing guidance, training and targeted support where needed. Our approach focuses on:

  • High-quality, adaptive teaching in every classroom
  • Reasonable adjustments to support access and inclusion
  • Targeted interventions matched carefully to identified needs
  • Strong relationships with pupils and families
  • Close collaboration with external services and professionals

Working in Partnership with Families

We know that parents and carers know their children best. We value open, honest and supportive communication and see families as key partners in supporting children with additional needs.

We aim to:

  • Listen carefully to parental views and concerns
  • Communicate clearly about support and next steps
  • Involve families in decision-making wherever possible
  • Work together to help children grow in confidence and independence

If at any point you have questions or concerns about your child’s needs, progress or support, we encourage you to get in touch.

Our Commitment

At Hillside Primary School, we are committed to:

  • Removing barriers to learning wherever possible
  • Supporting children’s academic, social, emotional and personal development
  • Ensuring pupils with SEND have a positive, meaningful school experience
  • Continually reflecting on and improving our inclusive practice

We hope this section of the website helps you understand how we support children with SEND in our school. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to discuss your child or need further information.
